# Objection Frequency Tracker Template

> A ready-to-build spreadsheet template for logging every objection by rep, deal stage, and outcome, with a category taxonomy, rollup structure, and threshold rules that flag a pattern before it costs a quarter of pipeline.

Free template for sales managers. Topic: [Objection Handling](https://www.peerlab.ai/library/topic/objection-handling/). Published by PeerLab in the [Sales Enablement Resource Library](https://www.peerlab.ai/library/). Source: https://www.peerlab.ai/library/objection-frequency-tracker-template/

## How to use it

Log every objection the same day it happens using the 13-column schema, run the weekly rollup every Monday, and treat any threshold-rule breach as a mandatory agenda item rather than a passive metric.

## What's inside

- 13-column log sheet schema (date, rep, account, stage, deal value, category, verbatim objection, root cause, response used, outcome, 30-day follow-up, coaching flag, notes)
- 10-category objection taxonomy with an 'Other' overflow rule
- Weekly rollup pivot-table structure (count/percentage/win-rate/value by category)
- Monthly rep-level rollup identifying gap vs. team average by category
- 5 threshold rules that trigger action (category concentration, win-rate cliff, deal-value skew, rep-specific gap, rising trend)
- 4-step weekly usage habit (same-day logging, Monday review, team-meeting flag, 30-day loop-close)

A log-every-objection template for spotting patterns before they cost a quarter of pipeline. Built to work as a spreadsheet (Google Sheets/Excel), copy the column headers directly into row 1.

## Log Sheet: Column Headers (one row per objection instance)

| Column | Field | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| A | Date | Date the objection was raised |
| B | Rep Name | |
| C | Account / Deal Name | |
| D | Deal Stage | Discovery / Demo / Proposal / Negotiation / Closing |
| E | Deal Value | For weighting impact, not just count |
| F | Objection Category | Use the taxonomy below: pick ONE primary category |
| G | Objection (verbatim quote) | Exact words if possible, not paraphrased |
| H | Diagnosed Root Cause | What the rep believes was really behind it, after diagnostic questions |
| I | Response Used | Which script/technique was used (reference by name, e.g., "LAER," "cost-of-inaction reframe") |
| J | Outcome | Advanced / Stalled / Lost / Won |
| K | Deal Status 30 Days Later | Follow-up field, fill in a month after logging |
| L | Coaching Flag | Y/N, did a manager review this instance in a 1:1? |
| M | Notes | Free text |

## Objection Category Taxonomy (use for Column F, keep it consistent across the team)

1. **Price / Cost**: "too expensive," discount requests
2. **No Budget**: hard no, priority no, approval no, soft no
3. **Timing / Priority**: "not now," "revisit next quarter"
4. **Status Quo / Satisfaction**, "happy with what we have"
5. **Trust / Past Experience**: "tried this before," "never heard of you"
6. **Competitor**, actively comparing to a named alternative
7. **Authority / Process**: "not my decision," "need sign-off from X"
8. **Feature / Fit Gap**, a specific capability concern
9. **Send-Me-Info / Stall**, low-commitment brush-off
10. **Other**: anything that doesn't fit cleanly (note it in Column M: if "Other" grows past 10% of entries, it needs its own category)

## Weekly Rollup Summary (build as a pivot table off the log)

| Category | # of Instances | % of All Objections | Win Rate When This Was the Objection | Avg. Deal Value Affected |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Price / Cost | | | | |
| No Budget | | | | |
| Timing / Priority | | | | |
| Status Quo | | | | |
| Trust / Past Experience | | | | |
| Competitor | | | | |
| Authority / Process | | | | |
| Feature / Fit Gap | | | | |
| Send-Me-Info / Stall | | | | |
| Other | | | | |

**Build this as a pivot table:** Rows = Column F (Category), Values = Count of Column A (instances), Average of Column J converted to a win flag (1/0), Sum of Column E (deal value).

## Monthly Rep-Level Rollup

| Rep | Top Objection Category (by volume) | Win Rate on That Category | Team Average Win Rate on Same Category | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| | | | | |

*Use this to spot when one rep's win rate on a specific objection type is significantly below the team average: that's a targeted coaching opportunity, not a generic "improve objection handling" note.*

---

## Threshold Rules: When the Data Should Trigger Action

- **Category concentration:** if any single category accounts for **>25% of all logged objections** in a month, it needs a team-wide response (a script update, a training session), not individual coaching.
- **Win-rate cliff:** if win rate on a specific category drops below **half the team's overall average win rate**, escalate to a manager review of the response being used.
- **Deal-value skew:** if a category is disproportionately hitting **high-value deals** (check the Avg. Deal Value column), prioritize it even if instance count is lower than others.
- **Rep-specific gap:** if one rep's win rate on their top category is **15+ points below team average** on that same category, schedule a 1:1 using the Manager's 1:1 Objection Coaching Conversation Guide.
- **Rising trend:** if a category's share of total objections has **grown for 3 consecutive months**, treat it as an early warning: something upstream (positioning, pricing, a competitor's new move) is likely shifting.

## How to Use This Weekly (5-minute habit)
1. Every rep logs objections the same day they happen, same-day logging beats end-of-week batching for accuracy of the verbatim quote.
2. Manager reviews the rollup every Monday for the prior week.
3. Any category crossing a threshold rule gets flagged in the team meeting that week: named specifically, not folded into general pipeline review.
4. Revisit Column K ("30 Days Later") monthly to close the loop on whether "Stalled" turned into "Lost" or recovered.
