## How to use it

Score both Part A and Part B honestly against your last 10 real dials, read your quadrant in the cross-reference table, then drill only your single lowest-scoring micro-skill for the next 20 dials before re-testing.

## What's inside

- Two separate scored sections: Confidence (5 questions) and Skill (7 micro-skill questions)
- A 2x2 cross-reference (overconfident blind spot / ready to mentor / foundational / imposter pattern)
- 7 named micro-skills scored individually (opening line, pattern interrupt, tone & pace, gatekeeper handling, objection-at-open, securing next step, voicemail)
- A diagnostic mapping from lowest score to likely connect-rate cause
- A 20-dial drill-and-retest method for isolating the real bottleneck

## Why two scores, not one
Confidence and skill are not the same thing: a rep can feel great about a call and still have a broken opening line, or feel terrible about a call that actually worked. This quiz scores both separately, then cross-references them so you find the one micro-skill actually dragging your connect rate down, instead of just "getting more reps in."

## Part A, Confidence (how it feels)
Score 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree):
1. I feel calm, not anxious, in the 10 seconds before a cold call connects.
2. I don't rehearse an opening line in my head right before dialing.
3. A "no" or hang-up doesn't affect how I feel going into the next call.
4. I'd rather make a cold call than send another email.
5. I don't avoid calling a harder/senior contact vs. an easier one.

**Confidence score (5-25): ___**

## Part B: Skill (what actually happens, self-audit against your last 10 dials)
Score 1-5 per micro-skill based on actual recordings/notes, not memory:
1. **Opening line**: Do you state a clear reason for the call in the first 10 seconds, without a scripted-sounding intro? (1 = reads like a script, 5 = sounds like a real reason this person specifically should care)
2. **Pattern interrupt**: Do you break the "sales call" pattern the person expects in the first exchange (tone, pacing, directness)? (1 = sounds exactly like every other cold call they get, 5 = they comment on it or engage differently)
3. **Tone & pace**: Are you speaking at a natural conversational pace, not rushed or reading? (1 = audibly rushed/reading, 5 = sounds like you're mid-conversation with a colleague)
4. **Gatekeeper/screen handling**: When you hit a gatekeeper or "what's this regarding," do you have a real answer instead of a dodge? (1 = fumble or overly evasive, 5 = direct, honest, gets you through or a real reason it doesn't)
5. **Objection-at-open handling**: When you get "not interested" in the first 15 seconds, do you isolate what that actually means before ending the call? (1 = accept and hang up, 5 = one genuine clarifying question, most of the time)
6. **Securing the next step**: Do you end connected calls with a specific, scheduled next step (not "I'll follow up")? (1 = vague follow-up, 5 = calendar invite sent before you hang up)
7. **Voicemail effectiveness**, Does your voicemail give a specific reason to call back rather than "just checking in"? (1 = generic, 5 = specific and curiosity-inducing)

**Skill score (7-35): ___**

## Cross-reference: what your two scores actually mean
| | Skill: Low (7-16) | Skill: High (24-35) |
|---|---|---|
| **Confidence: High (18-25)** | **Overconfident blind spot**, you feel good on calls that aren't actually landing. Highest-leverage fix: record and score your real calls against Part B, don't trust the feeling. | **Ready to mentor**, feeling matches reality. Consider recording calls for newer reps to study. |
| **Confidence: Low (5-17)** | **Foundational stage**: both need work, but start with skill (it's more fixable short-term); confidence usually follows once calls start landing. | **Imposter pattern**, you're better than you feel. The fix is volume and exposure, not more technique, you already have the skill. |

## Find the one micro-skill dragging your connect rate
Look at your 7 Part-B scores. Whichever is lowest is very likely the specific reason for a weak connect rate, not "cold calling in general."
- **Lowest = Opening line:** your connect rate problem is happening in the first 10 seconds, the person decides to hang up before you've said anything worth staying for.
- **Lowest = Pattern interrupt:** you're being correctly identified as "a sales call" and filtered before content even matters.
- **Lowest = Tone & pace:** you may be technically saying the right things but sounding scripted enough to trigger the buyer's spam-filter instinct.
- **Lowest = Gatekeeper handling:** your actual connect rate problem may be happening before you ever reach the decision-maker.
- **Lowest = Objection-at-open:** you may be connecting fine but ending calls too early on a soft "not interested" that wasn't a real no.
- **Lowest = Securing next step:** your problem isn't connecting, it's converting a connected call into a second call, worth checking whether "connect rate" is really the metric that's broken.
- **Lowest = Voicemail:** if most of your dials go to voicemail, this single line item may explain a callback rate near zero.

## What to do with this
1. Identify your single lowest Part-B score.
2. Drill only that micro-skill for the next 20 dials, ignore the other 6 for now.
3. Re-take Part B after 20 dials. If that score moved but connect rate didn't, move to the second-lowest score; the first wasn't the real bottleneck.
4. Once skill scores are consistently 4+, expect confidence (Part A) to rise on its own: it's a lagging indicator, not something to manufacture directly.
